HISTORY OF OUR CLUB

It is with good efforts of great man that the new club is born. The Goveronr with the help of his Board of Directors, Extension chairman, Governors Group Representative (GGR), Governors Special Representative (GSR) from Sponsor Club locates, Idetifies, surveys and after seeing the feasibility of a Rotary Club fixes the territory for new club to be formed. This provisional club becomes the Charter Rotary Club when the club is admitted to membership in Rotary International. The founder members of this club are known as Charter Members.

Our Club with Rtn. Vijay Nene as Charter President was formed on 12th September, 1976 and was admitted to R. I. on 6th December, 1976. The Charter presentation function took place on 2nd April, 1977. This all was the result of able guidance and assistance of the then District Governor Dr. Jorge LOBO under R. I. President, BOB Manchester, with the assistance of G.S.R. Dr. Yeshwant Jadhav of the sponsor Rotary Club of Kolhapur and G.G.R. Rotarian Sanat Arwade.

The then president of India, Governor of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Sri. Ratnappa Kumbhar, Collector of kolhapur Sri. D. T. Joseph and Rotary District Governor Nominee Rotarian Motibhai Doshi of Kolhapur have all sent their greeting and good wishes to our club at the charter presentation ceremony.

The foundation pillar of our club was laid by our first President Rtn. was at that time Manager of Bank of India Vijay Shankar Nene, Board of Directors, Charter Members of our Charerr Club were as follows :

The glimpse of salient activities and projects undertaken by the respective Presidents is as follows:

Rtn. Vijay Nene was the Charter President of our Club. He undertook various service projects, Vocational Awards, Blood Donation Camp. Dental Camp. CATARACT OPERATION CAMP, Interview Technique Seminar, Badminton tournaments etc. Rotary Welfare Trust, Ichalkaranji was also formed in this year. The blood donation camp, our first programme came at the time when 25 operations in Kolhapur were postponed due to shortage of blood.

In 1978-79, Rtn. Gangadhar Mahajan was the President of the Club. He undertook various usual service projects and commenced to give the "Ganesh Festival Decoration Award" which is at present supposed to be the most meritorious and prestigeous award in the town. District award for youngest club was received by our club.

During the presidential tennure of Rtn. Arun Goenka in 1979-80, 80 cycles and 70 sewing machines were distributed at a very subsidised rate. At this time "Innerwheel Club" also started, Ann Sunita Goenka was its Charter President.

Rtn. Vilas Alashe (1980-81) First time in Western Maharashtra, Laporoscopic Tubectomy Camp was arranged. 1981 was declared as the International Year For the Handicapped, which gave birth to towering monument of our Club l.e. Deaf Shool. At the same time Rotaract Club was sponsored with Satish Koshti as President.

Rtn. Shankarrao Survanshi (1981-821: Along with the usual routine projects. Diabetes and Hypertension Detection Camp was organised.

District fellowship was received by our club for 1980-81 and 1981-82.

Rtn. Baburao Mali (1982-83) Frist time in Maharashtra "Parents Guidance Seminar of deaf Students" was arranged with the help of SUHRUD MANDAL PUNE. Also Female Cancer Detection Camp was arranged with the help of DWARIKA SANGAMNERKER FOUNDATION & Maharashtra Medical Journ Pune, organised. District Award for Meritorious work of Deaf School wat received in this year.

Rtn. Mahendra Mutha (1983-84): On behalf of "Rorary Manch" speechest of eminent persons were arranged viz. Shri Baba Kadam, Shri. Laxman Mane. Mrs. Jyostna Deodhar, Shri. Shivaji Savant etc. Alongwith the usua routine projects, Skin Disease Camp and Dr. Sancheti’s orthopaedic Camp were also organised. With the help of Bank of Maharashtra, 50 sewing machines were distributed to poor and needy women. First time in ou Club history Intercity Forum on Club Service with record registrations wa organised. Dist. Award for Best Club in community service, youth servia was received by us. During this year, our club received Presidential Citation Award. He has also been awarded. R.I. President Citation Award for Humanitaria service.

Rtn. Ramnivas Agarwal (1984-85): Alongwith Food and Drug Dep of Maharashtra. Prevention of Food and Drug Adulteration Exhibition we orgaised. Also with the help of Employment Exchange, 90 Students we given coaching for Railway Service Examination.

Rtn. D. M. Kasture (1985-86): Our Club ranked fourth in our Distri by contributing Rs. 21,400/- towards Rotary Foundation Rallie. Po immunisation camp was arranged at shiradwad. Our Deaf School rece one acre of land at Tilwani from Govt. of Maharashtra. The Club host District Workshop on Rotary Foundation.

Rtn. Dr. Dilip Deshmukh (1986-87): With the help of NASE Bombay, we distributed 134 Free Hearing Aids worth Rs. 1 Lack Rs. 15,000/- were donated for heart operation to a needy and poor p On behalf of Rotarch Manch speeches of eminent writers like Baba Ki G. V. Behare were organised. On the occassion of 10th Anniversary Celebr our club had hosted the District Workshop on Membership Develop Badminton Tournaments for Rotarins, Financial Management Course, Mute Camp. Family Welfare Camp, Cycle Race, Boat Race, Rotary Janvani Painting Exhibition of Mrs. Asmita Jagtap, skin Disease Camp, Blood Donation camp. Fun Fair. Cricket Match between lions & Rotary Clubs, Law & Justice Improvement Seminar. Eye camp. Parents Guidance Camp, Youth Guidance Seminar. First Aid Camp. Amey Nursery Exhibition. Judo/Aikido training camp, street plays, Distribution of School Stationeries, Enterpreneurship Awareness Programme etc. were organised. During this year, our club sponsored Interact Club at Vyankatrao High school. The photo of G.S.E. Team’s Visit to our club had appeared in The Rotarian Rtn. Dr. Dilip had received Best G.G.R. Award during the year 1987-88. First time in our Club History Intra District RYLA Camp that too for Handicapped was successfully organised. Its Glimpses were shown on Bombay Television and Maharashtra Documentary films. In this year we have received President Citation Award and four District Award. (Maximum till today). 1) Club’s Highest Attendcne in the District Zone, 2) Best Public Rotation Award, 3) Award for Ryla Camp for the Handicapped. 4) Best Bulletin Award.

Rtn. Rohit Kikani (1987-88): Various Community service projects were undertaken. Polio Plus campaign was launged in this year and our club successfully achieved above 100% target in collecting funds for it. R.I. President Citation Award was given to our club.

Rtn. Rajiv Marathe (1988-89): Among various usual projects Dr. G. S. Kulkarani’s orthopaedic camp was undertaken and Koyna Fellowship trip was orgnised.

Rtn. Girish Badani (1989-90): Balaji fellowship trip was a great success and for the first time in our club teenagers RYLA CAMP and singing competetion at school level was organised.
